Common Questions About Our Ocean Pines Retina Office

Common Questions About Our Ocean Pines Retina Office

Ocean Pines is one of Atlantic Retina Center's satellite offices, bringing retina care to the Ocean City and Ocean Pines area so patients along the coast don't need to drive inland to Salisbury for specialist follow-up. Our vitreoretinal surgeons see patients here on a scheduled rotation rather than daily. If you're a seasonal resident, let our staff know your dates when you call and we'll work your visits and any injection schedule around them.

Yes. Every Atlantic Retina Center office is staffed by the same board-certified, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeons, so Ocean Pines patients receive the identical retina-only care offered at our Salisbury headquarters. If you split time between the shore and elsewhere on Delmarva, you can be seen at whichever office is closer without transferring records or starting over.

Ocean Pines serves a largely retirement-age community, and age-related macular degeneration, in both the dry and wet forms, is among the most common reasons patients are referred here. We also treat diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein and artery occlusion, macular pucker, macular hole, and retinal tears and detachments, with imaging, laser, and intravitreal injections performed on-site. Posterior vitreous detachment is also common with age and often presents as a sudden burst of new floaters or flashing lights. Most cases are harmless, but because the same symptoms can signal a retinal tear, they need same-day evaluation. Call us rather than waiting for the next clinic day.

Most patients come to us by referral from a local optometrist or ophthalmologist, and we send findings back so your routine eye care stays coordinated. You may also request an appointment yourself, though some insurance plans require a referral for specialist visits. Providers can refer a patient through our physician referral page.

Atlantic Retina Center accepts Medicare and most major commercial insurance plans. If you carry a plan from outside Maryland, call our office with your details before your first visit and our staff will verify your benefits in advance.

Our Ocean Pines office serves Worcester County and the northern coast, including Ocean City, Berlin, Bishopville, Showell, Snow Hill, and Selbyville and Fenwick Island just over the Delaware line. Patients inland are generally closer to our Salisbury office. See all five locations here.
